The Gateway to the MountainsAfter arriving at NJP or Bagdogra, drive toward Sillery Gaon (approx. 4 hours). Spend the afternoon taking a short walk to Ramitey Viewpoint for a stunning view of the Teesta River’s multiple bends.
Day 2:
The Ascent to ZulukDrive toward Rongli, where your driver will handle the Inner Line Permit (ILP) formalities. En route, stop at the beautiful Kuekhola Falls and the charming village of Padamchen. Continue your ascent to Zuluk (10,000 ft), a historic transit point on the ancient Silk Route.
Day 3:
The High-Altitude TrailThis is the most scenic day. You will drive up the famous 32-hairpin turn "Zig-Zag" road. Stay overnight in a homestay in Nathang to experience the stark, beautiful alpine landscape.

It’s the perfect place to relax by the river, enjoy a bonfire, and have a BBQ dinner.
Day 5: Return to RealityEnjoy a quiet morning by the crystal-clear stream at Reshikhola. After breakfast, start your drive back to NJP or Bagdogra (approx. 3–4 hours) for your onward journey to Kolkata.
Essential Travel Tips
Permits: This route is in a restricted area near the international border. You will need a valid photo ID (Voter ID/Aadhar) and passport-sized photographs for every traveler. Ensure you carry at least 4 copies of each.
Best Time: Mid-March to June offers pleasant weather and blooming rhododendrons. October to December offers crisp, clear skies and excellent mountain views.
Accommodation: Expect cozy, clean homestays rather than luxury hotels. The charm of the Silk Route lies in the warm hospitality of local families and authentic, home-cooked food.
Preparation: It gets very cold at higher altitudes (Zuluk/Nathang). Pack heavy woolens, gloves, caps, and comfortable walking shoes. Carry basic motion sickness and cold/fever medications, as medical facilities are sparse in the high-altitude zones.
